I didn't actually make goulash. I just have a collection of miscellany to share at the end of this week. :)
Firstly, here are our savings this week:
Tuesday: $2.55/$12
Wednesday: $6.81/$26
Thursday: $14.34/$24
Friday: $8/$24
TOTAL SAVINGS: $54.30
Nextly, I faithfully saved all of my grocery receipts for this week, with the following damages:
Farmer's Market: $4.50
Apple Picking: $11
Stile's market: $5.13
Met Food Market: $5.88
Big Apple Meat Market: $11.83
Amish Market: $1.36
TOTAL: $39.70
So, even with the anomaly of apple picking skewing the results, I still spent less than $40 for the whole week. I have stuff left over from these purchases (lots and lots of apples) and only ate dinner out once as a result.
Speaking of groceries, I had to mention this. There's an organization called Groupon (http://www.groupon.com/new-york/) that basically gives the internet community access to a group discount principle for a particular vendor/service every few days. Have a click. Go ahead, check it out...
Okay, hopefully it was something good. But if you're inclined to look at the tab for "recent deals" you'll see that they offered $35 of groceries at Amish Market for $15. Hell's bells. I got on this twice over. So soon I'll be bragging/blogging about my $70 work of fancy goodies for $30.
Finally, I got to meet (read: see) Julie Powell this week, the author behind the book (great) made into a movie (good) that is "Julie and Julia." She started blogging about food back when the blogsphere was just a wee thing. She was twice as wordy and spastic in person as in writing, and I kind of loved it.
Til next week, this time with more apples,
P

Today I read a story talking about how cooking may actually have made us human. Here's a link to (a link to) the story
