So, what inspired this blog?
A bit of text-messaging to coordinate lunch plans, resulting in the following menu, eaten at a park near the Hudson River:
Veggie Muffaletta Sandwiches: (Total $4.79 for 2 sandwiches)
1 Semolina Hero Roll: $.89 at Fairway
4 slices provolone cheese: $1.15 - I kid you not. Fairway is my church.
1/2 C Olive Spread: $2.75
(Giardinera - available at most olive bars - chopped in food processor with a splash of olive oil
and some dried oregano.)
Peach Cobbler (like, maybe 30 cents for 2 servings?)
My other church, Stiles Market in Hell's Kitchen, has these incredibly sensuous peaches at the moment, selling for $1 a pound. I bought nearly 6 pounds last week and made peach cobbler to feed about 30. Needless to say, there were leftovers. Besides peaches, the remaining ingredients were all staples (butter, flour, milk, cinnamon, baking powder) so seriously, I probably spent more in dishwashing liquid to clean up my kitchen following the rolling-out of pastry dough than I did on the dessert itself.
I will sign off now to let Eva blag about her contribution...
(I've just invented this term, "blag," to describe blabbing on a blog.)
Future posts to include pictures, whenever possible.
