Wednesday we went to cheap chinese food. It was $8 for some soup, veggies, chicken and a boatload of rice.
Thursday I made chili.
Now, I know what you're thinking. Didn't Pamela just make chili last week? And the answer is yes, yes she did! But I love chili, and I had a can of beans sitting around, I had some frozen ground beef. $4, if I recall correctly. I was half way there! I bought a can of tomatoes, a red bell pepper, and a packet of chili spices. $4. With the cheese I sprinkled on top and the tortillas on the side, I spent $9 on 3 servings. Thursday I told Pamela that Friday was all her. And if she failed at cooking, we'd just go out again someplace budget. Lo and behold she came to work not totally empty handed. As good as those cookies are, they aren't quite enough to be lunch. So we went to Sushi with Mavi and her friend Jill. Sushi is actually not overwhelmingly expensive for lunch in NYC. They all have lunch specials. I had a spicy tuna roll, and a yellowtail scallion roll, and Mavi and I split a sweet potato roll. It came with miso soup and salad for $12, out the door. This is exactly the kind of lunch Pamela and I used to do daily. Good food, not too pricey, $12. I like our new system a lot better. It's better for my wallet, and we eat a much larger variety of foods, and I like controlling what ingredients are in my food. I have a whole list of things I don't like eating, and things I do for reasons more complex than the taste factor, one of these days I may go into my theories on food choices.
But I digress... Even if every once in a while I am compelled to make a dish we just had, I'm pretty happy about this whole ladies lunching thing. In all these months of blogging, I can't think of any other repeat dishes. I challenge you to come up with one! (And I don't think salad counts because they differ in dressings and/or toppings.)
P.S. My sister's water just broke, and I'm going to be Aunt Eva real soon. Get Excited!
