As of tomorrow, Eva and I will be in Germany for about 10 days, and following that, Italy. So our posts from the road will probably tend less toward what clever things we made using only that which can be found in our hotel rooms, and more along the lines of things we ate that blew our minds but not our budgets. (And probably the occasional budget-buster, just because.)
I for one am going to approach this particular tour with one primary goal: Don't forget to eat vegetables. You'd think this shouldn't be too hard to do, but when your day begins with German hotel breakfast (often featuring pork) and transitions through a hurried consumption of lunch on the go (pork on bread) and ends with dinner where you're eager to sample the locale cuisine (pork plus spaetzle or potatoes), it only takes a few days for your body to remind you that you've left behind a couple of food groups. So I'm going to look past the pork as much as I can to find veggies in the mix. This may be particularly troublesome in the town of Schweinfurt, where the website for the hotel where we are staying features several illustrations of pigs on the front page. (And a conga line, which is a bit upsetting, but also reminds me that I should find opportunities to exercise.)
Pork, anyone?
