Office Potluck

One of mine and Eva's coworkers periodically organizes some office potlucks upon a particular theme. Today was "Food on the Side," presumably in honor of the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday and all of its terrific side dishes.

Eva and I usually represent pretty well at these events. I won in both categories for the Salsa/Guac off last year, as well as for Thai Red Curry in honor of Red Food Day. (Happened around Valentine's day.) Eva took home prizes for a Spinach Artichoke Dip during the plain-ole Potluck day, and also during the Bake Off for a Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Cake.

Today was kind of another story. For being some of the biggest "foodies" around the office, neither of us did our best work. Eva made a "Coconut Pudding," which, while delicious, was supposed to have been Coconut Cream Pie. I tried to make a Vegan Mushroom Walnut Stuffing. (Our coworker who organizes is vegan, and while she doesn't expect the entries to be as much, I try to help her out once in a while for her effort.) While I respect many vegan chefs, I am not meant to be one of them. Nothing was terribly wrong with it, just kind of bland. I won't be making it for Thanksgiving.

The winning entry was Cheddar Garlic Biscuits, followed closely by a Cream Cheese and Olive Salad Cracker Spread. Other entries included: Hijiki Salad, Cornbread Muffins, Spicy Green Beans with Mushroom Gravy, and Salmon Roll Ups.

One of our dancers wondering what Eva and I did wrong...
